Our Objectives

To actively assist mariners in distress by all available means.
To raise the level of competence and awareness of marine safety among the Douglas boating community.
To assist Douglas community members in commencing a career in the marine industry.
We are a Volunteer Organisation. We provide 24-hour-7 day a week Rescue and Assist support for the boating community within Douglas Shire coastal waters. We are an affiliated Squadron of the Volunteer Marine Rescue Association Queensland (VMRAQ).

Volunteers joining MRDSI are expected to commit themselves to proactively support the goals and requirements of VMRAQ, while also being bound by the large body of legislation underpinning operations as overseen by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).

We depend largely upon donations and fundraising activities to maintain our operations. A $20,000 annual grant from the Queensland State Government, through VMRAQ, partially supports our operations.

Our Officers

MRDSI has 3 statutory office bearers. The President, Treasurer and Secretary and a management team that are up for election at the Annual General Meeting each year.

MRPD day-to-day operations are led by Coordinators appointed from time to time.
