Volunteer Marine Rescue Association Queensland is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 6019).

Coxswain Training and Qualifications

Through each squadron, the State Association provides the required MAR training Units and issuing of Qualifications for a VMR Crew Member to obtain a CERTIFICATE II in AMSA Grade 1 Near Coastal Waters MARITIME OPERATIONS – COXSWAIN GRADE 1.

The Marine Rescue Port Douglas Crew Member can then apply to AMSA or an AMSA approved RTO for their oral exams to obtain their Commercial Coxswain Qualification. The issuance of this Qualification is dependent upon the successful completion of all of the required NC1 Coxswain Units, LROCP, current First Aid, Task Book completion, Medical Examination, Eye test and minimum sea time requirements, depending on sea time restrictions may apply.

Vessel Crew Training and Qualifications

The minimum requirement necessary for VMR Vessel Crew is CERTIFICATE I Shipboard Safety Skill Set (MARSS00008), which is to be completed within 6 months of joining as a vessel crew member.

Each squadron has TAE Trainer and Assessors to provide the MAR training.
